Spring Gardens Community is a sustainable community and research center under development on approx. 200 acres in south central Nova Scotia, Canada. It will feature a climate-proof, self-sufficient, carbon-neutral and truly sustainable eco-village and bio-diversity preserve.
The property was originally had a country store and for awhile was a dairy farm. It is currently about 7/8 forest with numerous springs and wetlands and two large meadows. There is a large 3 story barn with basement. An existing 4 bedroom house will provide office space and a store for aquaponics supplies. Additional housing, greenhouses and other buildings will be constructed mostly from on-site materials. The community will strive to become as self-sufficient as possible and support the adaptation of the property's eco-system to climate changes.
The foundation of the human habitat is a PolyBio System™ that converts organic waste into energy, nutrients, food, raw materials and pure water. The PolyBio System includes numerous aquariums and ponds, some for the propagation of endangered and threatened freshwater species. Food will grown both indoors and outdoors. Protein will be plant-based with the aquatic plant Wolffia globosa being a staple.
The project is being developed in partnership with the public benefit corporations Climate Survival Solutions, Inc. PBC and Sofistica, Inc. PBC with a diverse team of mostly volunteer professionals with private funding. Additional volunteers will be needed soon for construction, food production, research, forest and wildlife care-taking, and other services. Long-term paid positions will be available for the right people. Interested parties should contact us through our contact form.
